Allison Pottinger (born Allison Darragh on July 5, 1973) is a famous American curler. She is from Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Allison is well-known for playing on teams with Debbie McCormick in many Olympic Games and World Championships. She competed in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. In 2008, she was named the USA female curling athlete of the year.

Allison Pottinger's Curling Journey

Allison Pottinger started her curling career at the St. Paul Curling Club in St. Paul, Minnesota. She first learned how to curl in Otterburn Park, Quebec, Canada.

Early Achievements and Medals

In 1994, Allison was an alternate player for Erika Brown's team. They won a silver medal at the 1994 World Junior Curling Championships. An alternate is a backup player who can step in if needed.

Allison earned another silver medal in 1996. She played as the "lead" for Lisa Schoeneberg's team at the World Curling Championships. The lead player throws the first two stones in each round.

In 1999, Allison won a third silver medal. This time, she was the "second" player for Patti Lank's team. The second player throws the third and fourth stones.

Making History with Gold

By 2003, Allison had moved up to the "third" position. She played for Debbie McCormick's team. The third player throws the fifth and sixth stones.

In 2003, their team made history. They won the first-ever gold medal for an American team at the World Curling Championships. This was a huge moment for USA curling!

They returned to the Worlds in 2006 and won another silver medal. Allison's team continued to be very strong.

Olympic Dreams and Roles

Allison and her team qualified for the 2014 United States Olympic Curling Trials after a big win in 2012. Even though her team did not win the trials, Allison was chosen as the alternate for the winning team. This team included her former teammate, Debbie McCormick.

Allison went to the 2014 Olympics. However, she was not chosen to play in any of the matches for Team USA.

About Allison's Life

Allison Pottinger works as a consumer insights manager for Rakuten Intelligence. She studied at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh. There, she earned two bachelor's degrees in Political Science and History. She also has an MBA in Marketing from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Allison is married to Doug Pottinger and they have two children.
