Allison Pottinger (born July 5, 1973, as Allison Darragh) is a famous American curler. She is from Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Allison is well-known for playing on teams with Debbie McCormick in many Olympic Games and World Championships. She competed in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. In 2008, she was named the USA female curling athlete of the year.

Allison Pottinger's Curling Journey

Allison Pottinger plays curling at the St. Paul Curling Club in St. Paul, Minnesota. She first learned how to curl in Otterburn Park, Quebec, Canada.

Early Success and Medals

In 1994, Allison was an alternate player for Erika Brown's team. They won a silver medal at the 1994 World Junior Curling Championships. An alternate player is like a substitute who can step in if needed.

Allison won another silver medal in 1996 at the World Curling Championships. She was playing as the lead for Lisa Schoeneberg's team. In curling, the lead player throws the first two stones of each end.

In 1999, Allison earned another silver medal. This time, she was playing as the second for Patti Lank's team. The second player throws the third and fourth stones.

Becoming a World Champion

By 2003, Allison had moved up to the third position. She played for Debbie McCormick's team. The third player throws the fifth and sixth stones and often helps the skip with strategy.

In 2003, Allison's team made history! They won the first-ever gold medal for an American team at the World Curling Championships. This was a huge achievement for USA curling.

They continued their success, going to the World Championships again in 2006. There, they won another silver medal.

Olympic Appearances

Allison Pottinger has competed in two Winter Olympics. She was part of the US team at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.

Her team also tried out for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Even though her team didn't win the trials, Allison was chosen as an alternate for the winning team. This team included her former teammate, Debbie McCormick. Allison went to the 2014 Olympics but did not play in any matches for Team USA.

Life Outside Curling

Allison Pottinger works as a consumer insights manager for a company called Rakuten Intelligence. She studied at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh. There, she earned two bachelor's degrees in Political Science and History. Later, she got her MBA in Marketing from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Allison is married to Doug Pottinger and they have two children.
