Altamira Fútbol Club, also known as Estudiantes de Altamira, was a football team from Mexico. They were based in Altamira, Tamaulipas. Before 2006, they were called Estudiantes de Santander.

History of Altamira Football Club

The Altamira football club started as Estudiantes de Santander. On July 12, 2001, they held try-outs for young players in Tamaulipas. Many young people wanted to join the team. The club was officially created on August 11, 2001.

Early Years and Promotions

The team began playing in the Segunda División de México, which is like a second-tier league in Mexico. In the 2004-2005 season, they played very well. They earned a promotion to the Primera A league. This league is now called Liga de Ascenso.

When they were in Primera A, they worked with bigger teams. They became a "farm team" for San Luis and later for Pumas UNAM. This meant they helped develop players for these larger clubs. However, their time in Primera A was short. After the Clausura 2005 tournament, they were moved back down to the Second Division.

Name Change and Return to Liga de Ascenso

In 2006, the team changed its name to Estudiantes de Altamira. It took almost five years for Altamira to return to the Liga de Ascenso. This happened in 2010. The teams that won the Segunda Division championship that year could not be promoted. So, Estudiantes de Altamira took their place in the higher league.

Why Altamira FC Disappeared

After playing for a few seasons in the Ascenso MX league, Altamira Fútbol Club faced some problems. They were having financial difficulties. This means they didn't have enough money to keep the team going. One big reason was that not many fans came to watch their games.

Because of these money problems and low attendance, the club made a big decision. On May 25, 2015, the team moved to Chiapas. They changed their name and became a new team called Cafetaleros de Tapachula. This was the end of Altamira Fútbol Club.

Team Colors and Logo Meaning

The team's logo, also called a crest, showed important things about Altamira. Altamira is a port city, which means it's a city with a harbor for ships.

  • The logo included an anchor, a ship, and factories. These symbols represented the important resources and industries around the city.
  • In the front of the logo, there was a ship's steering wheel.
  • The team's colors were navy blue and white. These colors were chosen to represent the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, which is near Altamira.
