Althea V. Stevens, born on January 2, 1983, is an American politician. She has been a member of the New York City Council since 2022. She represents the 16th district, which includes parts of the South Bronx. These areas are Morrisania, Concourse, Highbridge, and Morris Heights.

Her Early Life and School
Althea Stevens grew up in New York City. She went to Hunter College and earned a master's degree. Before she became a City Council member, she was involved with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Tenants Association. This group helps people who live in public housing.
Her Work and Public Service
Before joining the City Council, Althea Stevens worked to help people in her community. She was part of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Tenants Association. This role meant she helped speak up for residents living in public housing.
Joining the City Council
Althea Stevens ran for the New York City Council in the 2021 election and won. During her campaign, she talked about ideas for the New York City Police Department's (NYPD) budget. Her campaign also received support from the Working Families Party (WFP).
On the City Council, she leads the Committee on Youth Services. This committee works with the Department of Youth and Community Development. Their job is to help young people and community programs in New York City.
In December 2024, Stevens was one of 30 council members who voted for "The City of Yes" legislation. This new law helps create about 80,000 new homes across New York City's five boroughs. The legislation was signed into law by Mayor Adams.
