Altwis was once a small town, called a municipality, in Switzerland. It was located in the canton of Lucerne. In 2021, Altwis joined with the nearby town of Hitzkirch. Now, it is part of the Hitzkirch municipality.

History of Altwis
Altwis is a very old place. The first time it was ever written about was in the year 1113. Back then, it was called Altwise.
Exploring Altwis's Geography
Altwis is found in a beautiful area called the Seetal valley. It sits at the bottom of the Lindenberg mountain. The town is located between two lovely lakes: Lake Hallwil and Lake Baldegg.
The area of Altwis was about 2.9 square kilometers (which is about 1.1 square miles). A big part of this land, about 63.8%, was used for farming. Forests covered about 29% of the area. The remaining land, about 7.2%, had buildings and roads.

In 2019, Altwis had about 430 people living there. Most people in Altwis speak German. About 89.8% of the population used German as their main language. Albanian was the second most common language.
