Occupation Artist

Amanda Ansell is an English artist born in 1976. She is known for her unique abstract paintings. Abstract art does not show things exactly as they look in real life. Instead, it uses shapes, colors, and lines to create feelings or ideas.

Amanda studied art at two famous schools. She went to Norwich University of the Arts from 1995 to 1998. Then, she continued her studies at the Slade School of Fine Art in University College London until 2000.

After living in London for seven years, Amanda moved back to her home county of Suffolk in 2006. There, she started an artist residency at Firstsite in Colchester. An artist residency is a special time and place where artists can focus on their work. In the same year, some of her art was chosen for an exhibition at Kettles Yard in Cambridge. She was also nominated for a special art award called Jerwood Contemporary Painters.

Her paintings often use a small number of colors. She uses these colors to explore how artists connect with nature.
