Amirah Kassem (born January 8, 1987) is an American baker, author, and TV personality. She is famous for creating amazing cakes and is the owner of FLOUR SHOP. You might also know her as a judge on the Disney+ show Foodtastic. Amirah's fun kitchen items, home decor, and clothes are sold all over the world.

Amirah is known for making unique cakes without using fondant, which is a type of sugar paste. Her "Explosion Cakes" are super popular! One of her most famous creations, the Cara the Unicorn Explosion Cake, was a top trend on Instagram in 2017. She has also written a best-selling cookbook called The Power of Sprinkles and a children's book series, The Magical Land of Birthdays.

Amirah's Early Life and School

Amirah grew up in Chihuahua, Mexico. There, she learned how to bake delicious treats from her mom and grandma. When she was nine, she moved back to her birthplace, El Paso, Texas, with her parents. Later, she studied at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles.

Flour Shop: Her Famous Bakery

In 2012, Amirah left the fashion world to start her own special bakery, Flour Shop. This bakery is known for its super creative cakes! They make cakes shaped like cheeseburgers, pizzas, and even buckets of popcorn. But their most famous cake is the "Explosion Cake," which spills sprinkles and candy when you cut into it. Flour Shop makes all its baked goods without using fondant icing.

Flour Shop opened its first main store in SoHo, New York, in November 2017. Later, in August 2020, they opened another store in Beverly Hills, California. Many famous people and brands have ordered cakes from her, like Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Vans, Louis Vuitton, and Alice + Olivia. Amirah has also been a main guest at big food festivals like BottleRock and the New York City Wine and Food Festival.

Amirah is a judge on the Disney+ food-art show Foodtastic, which started in 2021. The show is hosted by Keke Palmer. She has also been a guest judge on many other food shows. These include Sugar Rush, Cupcake Championship, Nailed It! Mexico, and Beat Bobby Flay.

Her Art Projects

Amirah Kassem often works with photographer Henry Hargreaves on art projects. One of their projects is called "Burning Calories." This photo series was shown in a gallery in Venice, Italy. They also worked together on a photo series to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Wu-Tang Clan, a famous music group.

Amirah's art has also been shown in famous museums like the Whitney Museum and Brooklyn Museum. In 2015, when the Brooklyn Museum celebrated artist Takashi Murakami, Amirah created her own art piece. She used 10,000 gumballs to make her version of Murakami's famous flower design.

Designing Cool Stuff

In 2019, Amirah designed and launched a collection of kitchen, table, and food items with Williams-Sonoma. Her FLOUR SHOP line was described as "playful and chic" and a "refined rainbow" by Elle Decor magazine.

Later in 2019, Amirah also designed a home collection with Pottery Barn brands, especially for Pottery Barn Kids. This FLOUR SHOP collection was sold worldwide. It included fun decor, bedding, and items for your table.

In 2020, Amirah designed a special limited edition fashion line with Vans. This FLOUR SHOP collection included shoes, clothes, and accessories for kids, women, and men.

Her Start in Fashion

Amirah Kassem actually started her career in fashion while she was studying at FIDM. She worked for brands like 7 For All Mankind and Fred Segal. She then moved into high fashion, working with Interview Magazine. After that, she moved to New York City and helped launch a fashion brand called BLKDNM.

Amirah's Personal Life

Amirah currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and business partner, Ross "The Boss" Harrow. They have a baby girl named Coco.
