An All Dogs Christmas Carol is an animated musical TV movie from 1998. It was released directly to video in November 1998. This movie is the last one in the All Dogs Go to Heaven film series. It also wraps up the animated TV show.
Unlike the first two movies, this story focuses on Carface. The film is based on the famous book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, written in 1843.
What the Movie is About
The movie starts with cute angel puppies talking to Annabelle (Bebe Neuwirth). They ask her to tell them a story. Annabelle begins to tell them how Carface helped save Christmas. He did this with a little help from Charlie (Steven Weber) and Itchy (Dom DeLuise).
The story begins in an alley. Charlie, Itchy, Sasha (Sheena Easton), and their friends are decorating for a Christmas party. Everyone is having fun. Charlie and Itchy are looking after the young puppies. Charlie checks on Sasha and the money they collected for Timmy's leg operation.
Suddenly, Carface (Ernest Borgnine) and Killer (Charles Nelson Reilly) show up. They start collecting debts from everyone. Charlie refuses to pay Carface because his debt isn't due yet. But Carface uses a special, mysterious dog whistle. This whistle can hypnotize dogs. It makes everyone give Carface and Killer all their bones. Before leaving, Carface and Killer also take all the food, presents, and the money for Timmy's operation. They run off, laughing.
Charlie and Itchy try to get the stolen items back from Carface. But they keep failing. It turns out Carface is working for Annabelle's evil cousin, Belladonna (also played by Neuwirth). Belladonna has a big plan. She wants to use a giant version of the hypnotic dog whistle. This whistle would hypnotize every dog in San Francisco. The dogs would then steal all the Christmas presents from their owners. This would make the owners angry and throw their dogs out. This is exactly what happened to Carface when he was a puppy.
Charlie decides to try and scare Carface into being good. He asks Annabelle for help. Annabelle changes Charlie and his friends into characters from A Christmas Carol. Itchy becomes the Ghost of Christmas Past. Sasha becomes the Ghost of Christmas Present. Charlie becomes the Ghost of Christmas Future. This is a fun nod to the movie The Mask.
They visit Carface and make him feel bad about stealing everything. They especially make him feel guilty about the money for Timmy's operation. Sasha tells him that without the money, Timmy will get very sick. Charlie then shows Carface that his bad actions will lead to a very unhappy future for himself.
Carface sees himself in Timmy's situation. He realizes he must stop the giant whistle. He gets there just in time to stop the dogs from stealing the gifts. Belladonna gets very angry. She is about to hurt Carface and Killer. But Annabelle sends a huge amount of snow. The snow freezes Belladonna solid.
Meanwhile, it starts to snow where Charlie and his friends are. Everyone celebrates. Itchy says it's too bad they don't have any presents for the puppies. Just then, Carface arrives on a sled pulled by Killer. He gives back everything he stole, and even more! He also returns Timmy's money box, which is now completely full. Carface turns to leave. Sasha asks him to stay and join the party. Carface politely says no. He says he is going to visit his mother instead. But he wishes everyone a Merry Christmas.
Annabelle finishes the story by saying "Merry Christmas!" to the audience. The puppies wave, and Charlie and Itchy wish the same thing.
