Ana María Groot de Mahecha is a famous Colombian historian, archaeologist, and anthropologist. She was born in Bogotá, Colombia, on August 29, 1952. About Ana María Groot
Ana María Groot de Mahecha grew up in Bogotá. She went to the Colegio Santa Francisca Romana for school. Later, she studied anthropology at the Universidad de los Andes. In 1974, she earned her master's degree. Her master's project was about archaeological digs in a place called Tierradentro. She studied old pottery and how it might have been used to make salt.
In 2008, Ana María Groot earned her PhD in history from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Her PhD research focused on the daily lives and work of people who made salt on the Bogotá plateau during the 16th and 17th centuries.

Dr. Groot has written many articles and books about the history and cultures of Colombia. She studies the ancient peoples who lived in Colombia before Europeans arrived. Some of the groups she has studied include the Tierradentro, San Agustín, Nariño, Tairona, and the Muisca.
