Early Life and Moving to Belgrade
Anabela Bukva was born in Goražde, which was part of Yugoslavia at the time. Her father was Ahmed Bukva and her mother was Jadranka Polutak. Her parents divorced when she was young. Anabela chose to live with her father, and they were very close.
She loved music from an early age. Her father often played the guitar for her, and they would sing together. She grew up with her father's two half-brothers, who she saw as her own brothers. Anabela was a tomboy and practiced karate.
After finishing primary school in Goražde, Anabela moved to Sarajevo at age 13 for high school. She studied foreign languages there. She lived in Sarajevo for two years, moving many times. She also has two younger half-sisters from her father's side.
In late 1990, Anabela traveled to Switzerland with her boyfriend. Soon after, her home country, Yugoslavia, began to break apart, and wars started. Her boyfriend returned to Bosnia, but sadly, he was one of the first victims of the war.
Anabela could not go back to Bosnia because the borders were closed. She had no family in Switzerland, so she decided to move to Belgrade, Serbia.
In Belgrade, she found a job as a secretary. She also saw an advertisement for the Đogani Dance School and decided to take dance classes. There, she met Gazmen "Gagi" Đogani, a dance instructor. They quickly fell in love and spent hours creating dance routines to popular Western songs.
Music Career
Becoming a Star with Funky G (1993–2009)
Gagi decided to form a music group in 1993. A singer named Nenad Knežević Knez suggested that Anabela should be the main singer. Gagi agreed and asked Anabela to join his new group, Funky G.
Even though she liked the idea, Anabela was not sure at first. But they recorded a music video for their first song, Samo u snu. After this, Anabela moved to Sweden to live with her mother and go to school.
While she was in Sweden, Gagi kept calling her. He told her how successful their song was becoming in Serbia. He begged her to come back to perform at a big concert. Anabela was still unsure until she saw a news report on CNN. The report showed Belgrade's nightlife, and she heard her song playing in several nightclubs.
Finally, Anabela believed Gagi and returned to Serbia. She was surprised by how famous she had become in Belgrade. People started to connect Funky G with her. To improve her singing, Anabela took vocal lessons.
After their second album in 1995, Anabela became pregnant. She and Gagi saved money to buy their own apartment. Their first daughter, Luna, was born in 1996. Later, she had another daughter named Nina.
Solo Success (2009–Present)
Anabela and Gagi's marriage ended in April 2009. After that, Anabela left Funky G to start her own solo music career.
In September 2009, she released her first solo song, Moj dragi. Soon after, in October 2009, she released a duet called Sto ratova with Mia Borisavljević. In early 2010, Anabela joined the reality show Big Brother to promote her solo work. She finished in second place.

After her successful start, Anabela continued to release new songs. In 2011, she released "Ne zovi me," "Paparazzi" (with Mirko Gavrić), and "Beograd." The song "Beograd," featuring Elitni Odredi and DJ Shone, became a huge hit across the Balkans. It has been viewed over 50 million times on YouTube.
In 2012, Anabela performed at the Grand Festival with her song Lutka bez ruku. She also worked with Mirko Gavrić and Zile on the song Ljubi, ljubi. That same year, she married businessman Andrej Atijas. They had a daughter named Blankica Atijas in May 2013. They divorced in 2019 but remained good friends.
After Blankica was born, Anabela released the song Lujke moje. In 2014, she performed at the Pink Music Festival with her song Muzej promašenih ljubavi.
