Anand Bakshi (born 21 July 1930 – died 30 March 2002) was a famous Indian poet and lyricist. He wrote words for thousands of Bollywood songs. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist four times. Over his career, he wrote more than 6,000 songs for over 300 films.

Early Life
Anand Bakshi, whose full name was Bakshi Anand Prakash Vaid, was born on July 21, 1930. His birthplace was Rawalpindi in British India. This area is now part of Punjab, Pakistan. His family later moved to Delhi after India became independent. They then lived in Pune and Meerut before settling in Delhi.
From a young age, Bakshi loved writing poetry. It was mostly a private hobby for him. He even joined the Indian Navy for a while. During his time in the Navy, he didn't have much time to write. But he still wrote songs and poems for local events with his fellow troops. He kept trying to get his songs noticed in the Mumbai film world.
His Amazing Career
Anand Bakshi came to Hindi films hoping to write and sing songs. He became much more successful as a lyricist, someone who writes song words. He got his first chance in 1958 for a film called Bhalaa Aadmi. He wrote four songs for this movie. His very first song recorded was "Dharti Ke Laal Na Kar Itna Malaal."
After writing for a few movies, he found real success in 1962. This was with the film Mehendi Lagi Mere Haath. He also wrote a special song called a "qawwali" for the 1962 film Kala Samundar. His big breakthrough came in 1965 with the hit films Himalay Ki God Mein and Jab Jab Phool Khile. Another big success was Milan in 1967. These early hits made him a well-known lyricist.
Anand Bakshi became the favorite lyricist for actor Rajesh Khanna. He wrote many songs for films starring Khanna. Throughout his career, he wrote an incredible number of songs. He worked on over 6,000 songs for more than 300 films.
He also got a chance to sing in a few movies. In 1972, he sang a duet with Lata Mangeshkar for the film Mom Ki Gudiya. He also sang a solo song in the same film. Later, he sang in films like Sholay (1975) and Charas (1976).
Bakshi worked with many famous music composers. These included Laxmikant–Pyarelal, R D Burman, and Kalyanji Anandji. His songs were sung by all the top singers of his time. He was known for working with different generations of musicians. He even wrote the first recorded songs for many new singers who later became stars.
He was known for his versatile writing style. A famous example is the song "Dum Maro Dum" from the 1971 movie Hare Rama Hare Krishna. He wrote memorable lyrics for many other popular films. Some of these include Bobby, Amar Prem (1971), Aradhana (1969), Sholay (1975), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001).
Personal Life
Anand Bakshi was married to Kamla Mohan Bakshi. They had two daughters, Suman and Kavita, and two sons, Rajesh and Rakesh.
Later Years and Death
Towards the end of his life, Anand Bakshi faced health problems. He had issues with his heart and lungs. In March 2002, he got an infection during a small heart surgery. He sadly passed away on March 30, 2002, at the age of 71. He died due to multiple organ failure.
