Andre Emmett (born August 27, 1982 – died September 23, 2019) was an American professional basketball player. He was known for his amazing scoring skills. Andre played college basketball for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and was even named an All-American player in 2004. He also played a few games in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for teams like the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Jersey Nets. Andre Emmett sadly passed away in Dallas in 2019.

College Basketball Star
Andre Emmett played college basketball for four years at Texas Tech University. He played for famous coach Bob Knight for most of his time there. Andre became one of the best scorers in the history of the Red Raiders team. He is their second all-time leading scorer!
Early College Years
When Andre was a freshman, he started to show his skills. He averaged about 7.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. When Coach Bob Knight joined Texas Tech in 2001, Andre's scoring got even better. He averaged 18.7 points per game, which was one of the best in the Big 12.
Becoming an All-American
In his junior and senior years, Andre was one of the top scorers in all of college basketball. He averaged over 20 points per game in both seasons. Because of his great play, he was named a first-team All-Big 12 player three times. In his senior year (2004), he was even named a consensus All-American. Andre finished his college career by winning the 2004 NCAA Slam Dunk Contest, showing off his athletic talent.

Andre Emmett had a long professional basketball career. He played for many teams in different leagues and countries around the world.
NBA Draft and Early Career
Andre was picked by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 2004 NBA draft. He was the 35th player chosen overall. Soon after, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. He played 8 games for the Grizzlies during the 2004–05 season.
In 2005, Andre was traded to the Miami Heat but was later waived. He then joined the Austin Toros in the NBA D-League. This league is like a stepping stone for players hoping to get into the NBA.
Playing Around the World
Andre played for many teams outside the NBA. He played in countries like Lithuania, Belgium, France, Venezuela, and China.
- In 2009, while playing for the Shandong Lions in China, he scored an amazing 71 points in one game! This was a record for the CBA at the time. He also became the CBA Scoring Champion in 2010.
Return to the NBA and D-League Success
In 2012, Andre got another chance in the NBA. He signed a 10-day contract with the New Jersey Nets. He also continued to play very well in the NBA D-League.
- Andre was named an NBA D-League All-Star twice, in 2012 and 2015.
- In 2015, he was named the NBA D-League All-Star Game MVP. This means he was the best player in the All-Star game!
After his D-League success, Andre continued to play internationally. He played in the Philippines and South Korea, where he was also a top player.
