Andreas's Club Journey
Starting at F.C. Copenhagen
Andreas Cornelius joined the FC Copenhagen first team for training in July 2011 and January 2012.
On April 9, 2012, he played his first Superliga match. He came on as a substitute for César Santin against AGF. On May 20, 2012, it was announced that Cornelius would join the first team permanently.
Cornelius scored his first goal for Copenhagen against Midtjylland in the first game of the 2012–13 season. He also scored the winning goal against Molde FK in the Europa League on September 20.
He was named player of the month in the Danish Superliga on October 7, 2012. On April 15, he scored a key goal in a 3–2 win against FC Nordsjælland. This helped FCK get a 10-point lead and win the league title.
Even though he only played one full season with the first team, he became very popular. His name and number on official shirts were the most popular, making up about 40% of all sales.
Moving to Cardiff City
On June 27, 2013, Cardiff City announced they had signed Cornelius. This was a club record fee, reported to be around £8 million. On July 1, Cornelius completed his medical and signed a five-year deal. He said it was a "great opportunity" and an "exciting project."
He played his first friendly match against Forest Green Rovers and scored a goal. However, he got a small ankle injury in training the next week. This meant he missed Cardiff's first ever Premier League game.
Cornelius made his first official appearance for Cardiff on August 25 against Manchester City. He came on as a substitute late in the game. Three days later, he started his first competitive match in a League Cup game. He had to leave the game early due to his ankle injury. This injury kept him out for three months, causing him to miss 10 games for Cardiff. He also missed important games for Denmark.
By November 2013, Cornelius was training with the team again. He played 60 minutes in a friendly match and told the media he was ready to play.
Back to F.C. Copenhagen
On January 31, 2014, Cornelius returned to F.C. Copenhagen. Cardiff City said they lost most of the money they paid for him. He scored three goals in his first friendly game back at Copenhagen. On February 23, 2014, he started his first official game after re-joining the club. He scored a header to put his team ahead against AGF. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Cornelius finished his first half-season back with 5 goals in 13 games. This included two goals against Randers FC, where he dribbled past four players. In April 2015, he suffered a serious ankle injury during a match against Silkeborg IF.
Playing for Atalanta
On May 2, 2017, it was announced that Cornelius would join Serie A team Atalanta. The fee was about €3.5 million.
Loan to Bordeaux
On August 31, 2018, Cornelius joined Ligue 1 team FC Girondins de Bordeaux on loan for the season. The deal included an option for Bordeaux to buy him permanently later.
Joining Parma
On July 18, 2019, Cornelius signed with Serie A club Parma. This was a two-year loan with an agreement to buy him later. On October 20, 2019, Cornelius came off the bench and scored three goals in just eight minutes. This helped Parma win 5–1 against Genoa. He scored another three goals against Genoa later in the season, helping Parma win 4–1.
Moving to Trabzonspor
On August 8, 2021, Cornelius joined Süper Lig team Trabzonspor permanently. On April 30, 2022, Trabzonspor won the Turkish league title. This was their first title in 38 years, secured with a 2–2 draw against Antalyaspor.
Third Time at Copenhagen
On August 31, 2022, Cornelius returned to his former club F.C. Copenhagen for the third time. He signed a contract that will last until June 2027.
Playing for Denmark
In May 2018, Andreas was chosen for the Denmark national team's first squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He played in three of Denmark's four games. He started in the final group match against France and the knockout match against Croatia. Cornelius did not score any goals in that World Cup.
In June 2021, he was part of the national team for the 2020 UEFA Euro tournament. The team played very well and reached the semi-finals.
On November 7, 2022, he was included in the final 26-player squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
