A Star's Journey
Andrei Mironov was born in Moscow. His parents, Maria Mironova and Alexander Menaker, were also well-known actors. Andrei followed in their footsteps. He studied acting at the Vakhtangov Theatre School in the early 1950s. Later, from 1958 to 1962, he attended the Moscow Shchukin School.
After finishing his studies, Mironov joined the Moscow Theatre of Satire. He was a main actor there from 1962 until 1987. His first film role was in What If This Is Love? in 1961. He became very successful and received important awards. On December 18, 1980, he was given the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR. This is a very high honor for actors in Russia. He also received the Medal "For Labour Valour".
Andrei Mironov was loved for his roles in films by famous directors. These included Eldar Ryazanov, Leonid Gaidai, and Mark Zakharov. He was great at comedy and could play many different types of characters. He played everything from a government worker to a romantic spy or a clever con man.
Sadly, Mironov passed away while on tour in Latvia in 1987. He was performing the main role in the play The Marriage of Figaro when he became unwell. He was taken to a hospital. He died two days later from bleeding in his brain. This was due to a problem he had since birth. His death happened just nine days after his close friend and fellow actor, Anatoli Papanov, also passed away.
