He became an Assistant Surgeon with the 47th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. This unit was part of the Union Army, fighting to keep the United States together.

Bravery at Vicksburg

During the war, Davidson was part of the important Battle of Vicksburg. This battle was a major event in the Civil War. On May 3, 1863, Davidson performed acts of great courage. Even though he was a surgeon, he went above and beyond his duties to help others. His bravery during this battle led to him being awarded the Medal of Honor many years later, on October 17, 1892.

Later Life and Legacy

Andrew Davidson lived a long life after the war. He passed away on June 30, 1901. He is buried at the Forest Rose Cemetery in Ohio. His story reminds us of the many brave people who served during the Civil War.
