Andrew Burnett Creeggan, born on July 4, 1971, is a talented Canadian musician. Many people know him as a past member of the popular alternative rock band Barenaked Ladies. He also played in a group called The Brothers Creeggan and has released several albums as a solo artist.

Andy Creeggan's Music Journey

Joining Barenaked Ladies

Andy Creeggan grew up in Scarborough, a part of Toronto, Ontario. In 1989, he and his brother Jim Creeggan were invited to play with Ed Robertson and Steven Page. At the time, Ed and Steven were performing as a duo called Barenaked Ladies. Andy played conga drums for a Christmas show in Toronto.

After that show, both Andy and Jim were asked to join the band. Just six months later, in the summer of 1990, Andy went on a trip to South America with the Canada World Youth program. While he was away, the band met Tyler Stewart, who became their new drummer.

When Andy returned in early 1991, Tyler was already playing the drums. So, Andy switched to playing keyboards. He still played congas on some songs and added other instruments too. He helped create two of the band's early demo tapes: Barenaked Lunch (before his trip) and The Yellow Tape (after he came back). Andy also played on the band's first two official albums, Gordon and Maybe You Should Drive.

Leaving the Band

Andy Creeggan was not always comfortable being in the band. He wanted to study music more deeply. He was very interested in instrumental music and wanted to focus on music theory and composition at McGill University in Montreal.

According to Steven Page, Andy thought about leaving the band even before they recorded their second album. But he decided to stay for the recording and the tour that followed. Andy left Barenaked Ladies after that tour ended. The band then recorded their third album, Born on a Pirate Ship, as a four-person group. They later asked Kevin Hearn to join them for their 1996 tour.

The Brothers Creeggan

Andy and Jim Creeggan also had their own ideas for music. Most of the Barenaked Ladies' songs were written by Steven Page and Ed Robertson. In 1994, the Creeggan brothers released their own album called The Brothers Creeggan.

They released three more albums after that: The Brothers Creeggan II (1997), Trunks (2000), and Sleepyhead (2002). They also went on tour to support these albums. Their music often mixes rock and jazz styles. The duo has not released new music or toured together since 2003.

Solo Music: Andiwork

Andy Creeggan has also created four solo albums, which he calls Andiwork. These albums are Andiwork (1997), Andiwork II (2004), Andiwork III (2011), and Andiwork IV (2021). His solo music is more like modern European classical music, but it also has touches of jazz and rock. Most of the songs on these albums are instrumental, meaning they don't have singing.
