Anette Ingegerd Olsson, known as Anette Olzon, is a talented singer from Sweden. She was born on June 21, 1971. Anette is famous for being the lead singer of the Finnish band Nightwish from 2007 to 2012. She also sings for the Swedish classic rock band Alyson Avenue and the Finnish heavy metal band The Dark Element.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Anette grew up in a family that loved music. She has been singing since she was a child. Her mother also encouraged her to play the oboe for eight years. Anette even toured with her mother's band and sang with them sometimes.

As she got older, Anette joined many talent shows. She received great praise for her singing. At seventeen, she joined her first band called Take Cover. It was a cover band, meaning they played songs by other artists.

Anette also took singing lessons to improve her skills. She studied at the Copenhagen Music Conservatorie in Denmark. She also had private lessons at the Malmö Music University. Anette officially became the new lead singer for Nightwish in early 2007. She was chosen from about 2,000 people who wanted the job. Only 10 people got to audition in front of the band. The song she sent on her demo tape was "Ever Dream." She replaced the band's previous singer, Tarja Turunen.

Nightwish's band leader, Tuomas Holopainen, was first worried because Anette had a young son. But Anette kept trying. She sent the band a live DVD of her singing with Alyson Avenue. Nightwish's manager then contacted her. She officially joined the band in February 2007.

Tuomas said that the band voted, and everyone agreed Anette was the right choice. Her identity was kept a secret for a while. She was finally announced as the new Nightwish singer on May 24, 2007.

The next day, Nightwish released the song "Eva." This was the first song to feature Anette's voice. On June 13, Nightwish announced their new album would be called Dark Passion Play. They also released the name of their second single, "Amaranth." "Amaranth" quickly became a gold record in Finland.

Dark Passion Play was released in Europe in September 2007. It came out in the UK on October 1 and in the United States on October 2. The album quickly became very popular. It reached number one on music charts in Germany, Finland, Switzerland, Hungary, and Croatia. It also sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide.

On September 22, 2007, the band played a secret concert in Tallinn, Estonia. They pretended to be a Nightwish cover band called "Nachtwasser." Their first official concert with Anette was in Tel Aviv, Israel, on October 6, 2007. The Dark Passion Play World Tour then began. It was Nightwish's longest tour at the time. It lasted from October 2007 to September 2009.

In October 2010, Nightwish started recording their next album, Imaginaerum. Anette recorded her vocals for the album in April 2011. The album was released on November 30, 2011. After that, the Imaginaerum World Tour began in January 2012. Anette and the rest of Nightwish also starred in a film called Imaginaerum. The movie featured music from the band.

Solo Career

After leaving Nightwish, Anette started working on her own music. She began writing and recording songs for a solo album. On November 28, 2013, she announced her first solo album would be called Shine.

Anette said that the album's message is about finding light even when life is hard. She described the music as "pop rock" or "pop metal." The album was released on March 28, 2014. The first song from Shine, "Falling," was released in December 2013. The first official single, "Lies," came out in February 2014.

On January 19, 2016, Anette released an EP with two songs. One was a Swedish song called "Vintersjäl," and the other was "Cold Outside." On June 21, 2021, she released the song "Parasite." This was from her album Strong, which came out on September 10, 2021. Anette released her third solo album, Rapture, in 2024.

The Dark Element

On August 29, 2017, Anette announced a new project called The Dark Element. She was working with Jani Liimatainen, a guitarist from the band Sonata Arctica. Their first album, The Dark Element, was released on November 10, 2017. Their second album, Songs the Night Sings, came out on November 8, 2019.

Other Musical Projects

Anette has also worked with other bands and artists. She sang on the song "Heart Full of Fire" by Brother Firetribe in 2008. She also sang with The Rasmus on their song "October & April" in 2009. Anette also collaborated with Pain on their album Cynic Paradise.

In 2009, Anette sang two Nightwish songs with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. This was for an event celebrating the relationship between Sweden and Finland. In 2012, she performed two of her own songs at the opening of the Helsingborg Arena.

Anette lives in Helsingborg, Sweden. She is married to Johan Husgafvel, who used to be the bassist for the band Pain. They got married on August 10, 2013. Anette has three sons: Seth, Nemo, and Mio. As of 2020, Anette also works full-time as a nurse.
