Angeline Lake is a beautiful freshwater lake located in King County, Washington, in the United States. It sits high up on the northern side of Iron Cap Mountain. You'll find it nestled between other lakes like Otter Lake, Azure Lake, and Big Heart Lake.

Angeline Lake is right in the middle of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. This means it's a special protected area. Because of its location, you might need a special permit to visit the Big Snow Mountain area nearby. The West Fork Foss River flows out of Angeline Lake. This river then drops into a canyon, creating the amazing Angeline Falls further downstream.

Many people love to visit Angeline Lake. It's a popular spot for hiking, swimming, and fishing. If you're lucky, you might catch golden trout, rainbow trout, or cutthroat trout here!

How Water Leaves Angeline Lake

Angeline Lake has a unique way for its water to flow out. The water actually leaves the lake underground! This is called a subterranean outlet. A big landslide blocks the top part of the outlet channel.

So, the water from the lake seeps through this landslide. It then comes out of the ground about 1,000 feet (about 300 meters) downstream. At this point, the stream turns into Angeline Falls. The waterfall is very wide, about 80 to 100 feet (24 to 30 meters) across. It drops almost straight down for 424 feet (129 meters) over cliffs!

After the waterfall, the creek flows a short distance. Then, it goes back underground again. It reappears about 600 feet (183 meters) lower down at the south end of Delta Lake.

Angeline Lake's Surroundings

Angeline Lake sits in a long, flat area called a benchland. This area is mostly level or gently sloped. It's surrounded by steeper hills, like Atrium Peak, which is above the lake.

The rocks around Angeline Lake are interesting. They are made of materials like pyrrhotite and pyrite. These are found deep underground, about 1,000 feet (304 meters) below the surface. The main type of rock in this area is called greensand. This rock formed a very long time ago, between 260 and 250 million years ago!
