Angela Michelle "Angie" Harmon (born August 10, 1972) is an American actress and model. She first became famous as a model after winning a contest for Seventeen magazine when she was 15 years old. She later appeared on the covers of famous magazines like Cosmopolitan.
Harmon is best known for her acting roles on television. She played Assistant District Attorney Abbie Carmichael in the popular series Law & Order from 1998 to 2001. For this role, she was nominated for several Screen Actors Guild Awards.
From 2010 to 2016, she starred as police detective Jane Rizzoli in the crime drama Rizzoli & Isles. This role won her a Gracie Award and a People's Choice Award. She has also appeared in movies, such as Agent Cody Banks, and was the voice of Barbara Gordon in the animated movie Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.

Early life
Angie Harmon was born in Highland Park, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. Her mother, Daphne, is of Greek heritage, and her father, Lawrence, worked as an executive for a hospital information network.
On the TV show Who Do You Think You Are?, Harmon discovered an interesting fact about her family history. She learned that she had an ancestor from Germany who fought in George Washington's army during the American Revolutionary War. This ancestor was later given land in Kentucky, which is still owned by some of her distant relatives today.
Career
Modeling and Early Acting
Harmon began her career as a child model. In 1987, at age 15, she won a modeling contest for Seventeen magazine. After graduating from Highland Park High School in 1990, she continued her successful modeling career. She modeled for famous designers like Calvin Klein and Giorgio Armani.
Her acting career started in 1995 when she was discovered by actor David Hasselhoff on an airplane. This led to a main role in the TV series Baywatch Nights. She also appeared in the short-lived series C-16: FBI.
Breakthrough with Law & Order
In 1998, Harmon joined the cast of the hit NBC show Law & Order. She played Assistant District Attorney Abbie Carmichael for three seasons, until 2001. This role made her a well-known actress. During this time, she also voiced Commissioner Barbara Gordon in the animated movie Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.
After leaving Law & Order, she focused more on movies. She had a supporting role in Agent Cody Banks (2003) as the CIA handler for a teenage spy. She also appeared in the western film Seraphim Falls (2006).
Starring in Rizzoli & Isles
From 2010 to 2016, Harmon starred in the TNT crime series Rizzoli & Isles alongside Sasha Alexander. She played Jane Rizzoli, a tough Boston police detective. The show was very popular, and Harmon received praise for her performance.
For her work on the show, she won a Gracie Award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series in 2012. In 2015, she won a People's Choice Award for Favorite Cable TV Actress. She even directed the show's 100th episode.
In 2021, Harmon signed a deal with the Lifetime network to star in and produce several movies. She starred in the movie Buried in Barstow in 2022.
Personal life
On March 13, 2000, Harmon got engaged to former NFL player Jason Sehorn. The proposal happened live on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. They were married on June 9, 2001. Together, they have three daughters. The couple announced their separation in November 2014.
Harmon is skilled in Taekwondo and also trains in boxing. She is not related to actor Mark Harmon.
