Annabella's Early Life

Annabella Lwin was born on October 31, 1966. Her birthplace was Rangoon, which is in Burma. Her father was Burmese, and her mother was English.

Joining the Band Bow Wow Wow

Annabella Lwin became the singer for the band Bow Wow Wow. This happened when she was only thirteen years old!

How Annabella Joined EMI Records

Before Bow Wow Wow, some musicians like Matthew Ashman and David Barbarossa were in a band called Adam and the Ants. Their manager, Malcolm McLaren, convinced them to start a new band. They teamed up with bassist Leigh Gorman.

A music scout named Dave Fishel heard Annabella singing. She was singing along to the radio in a dry cleaner's shop. He thought she was great and told Malcolm McLaren about her.

Annabella had a successful audition. After that, she moved from her regular school to the Sylvia Young Theatre School. This school helps young people learn about performing.

Bow Wow Wow signed a music deal with EMI Records in July 1980. Soon after, they released their first song, "C·30 C·60 C·90 Go!".

This song was special because it was the world's first-ever cassette single. It was only released on a cassette tape. The song's lyrics talked about recording music from the radio. This was a bit controversial back then.

Moving to RCA Records

Later, Bow Wow Wow moved to a new record company, RCA Records. They released their first full album, See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang Yeah, City All Over! Go Ape Crazy!, in 1981.

They also released an extended play (EP) called The Last of the Mohicans. This was followed by the popular song "Go Wild in the Country".

Annabella started writing songs for the band's next album. This album was called When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going. It included a big hit song, "Do You Wanna Hold Me?". This song was played a lot on MTV.

After a busy tour in the US, Annabella was suddenly let go from the band. She found out by reading about it in a music magazine in September 1983.

Bow Wow Wow Reunions and New Music

Annabella Lwin and Leigh Gorman, the former bassist, got back together in 1997. They went on a tour in the United States. Other musicians joined them for the shows. The original guitarist, Matthew Ashman, had passed away in 1995.

Two of their live shows were recorded for a CD. This album was called Wild in the U.S.A.. It was released in 1998.

In 1998, Bow Wow Wow worked with DJ Swedish Egil. They made a song called "Eastern Promise". They also added a song called "A Thousand Tears" to a movie in 1999.

In 2006, Bow Wow Wow recorded a cover song. It was "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish" by the Smiths. This song appeared on several albums in 2007.

On November 21, 2010, Annabella, Leigh Gorman, and David Barbarossa played a special concert. It was a tribute to Matthew Ashman.

Bow Wow Wow continued to play shows with new band members. In 2012, Leigh Gorman started performing under the band's name with a different singer. Annabella Lwin still performs as "Annabella Lwin of the original Bow Wow Wow."

Some Bow Wow Wow songs were used in the movie Marie Antoinette (2006). These included "I Want Candy" and "Fools Rush In". Annabella's style also inspired the main actress in the film.
