Anne-Sophie Pic's Life Story
Anne-Sophie Pic was born in Valence, Drôme, France, on July 12, 1969. She grew up in her family's restaurant, Maison Pic. Her father, Jacques Pic, and her grandfather, Andre Pic, were also famous chefs. Her grandfather first earned three Michelin stars for the family restaurant way back in 1934.
At first, Anne-Sophie didn't plan to become a chef. She decided to study business management instead. She traveled to Japan and the United States to learn about different companies. But she soon realized her true passion was cooking and being in the restaurant.
Becoming a Chef
In 1992, when she was 23, Anne-Sophie returned to Maison Pic to learn from her father. Sadly, he passed away just three months later. After his death, she worked in the front of the restaurant, managing things.
In 1995, the restaurant lost one of its three Michelin stars. This made Anne-Sophie feel like she needed to bring back her father's star. Even though she didn't have formal cooking training, she decided to take over the kitchen in 1997.
Earning Michelin Stars
In 2007, Anne-Sophie Pic successfully earned back the third Michelin star for Maison Pic. This was a huge achievement! It made her only the fourth female chef in history to get three Michelin stars.
That same year, a French newspaper called Le Figaro listed her as one of the top twenty richest chefs in France.
Expanding Her Restaurants
Anne-Sophie Pic opened her second restaurant, Restaurant Anne-Sophie Pic, in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 2009, this restaurant earned two Michelin stars, and it has kept them ever since.
In September 2012, she opened her first restaurant in Paris, France, called La Dame de Pic. This restaurant has also earned one Michelin star.
In 2017, she opened another La Dame de Pic restaurant in London, England. It quickly earned a Michelin star in 2018 and a second star in 2020.
In 2019, she opened another La Dame de Pic restaurant in Singapore. It received one Michelin star in 2022 but closed in 2024.
At the end of 2020, she opened La Dame de Pic - Le 1920 in Megève, France. It earned its first Michelin star in 2022.
In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Anne-Sophie launched a food truck in Valence called Pic-up. This was her first time making hamburgers!
Family Life and Other Work
Anne-Sophie Pic is married to David Sinapian, and they have a son named Nathan.
She has also appeared on TV. In 2018, she was a judge on the cooking show The Final Table. She was also featured in a documentary film about female chefs called The Heat: A Kitchen (R)evolution.
In June 2020, Anne-Sophie Pic joined other famous chefs and leaders to sign an important appeal. This appeal was about creating a "cultural renaissance of the economy."
