Anne Vanschothorst is a talented musician from the Netherlands. She was born on July 9, 1974, in Emmen. Anne is known for playing the harp and for writing her own music.

She plays many different types of harps. These include the modern pedal harp, the folk-style celtic harp, and even older, historical harps. Some of her special harps are an antique Erard harp and a Schwieso Grosjean harp.

When Anne was 15, she wrote her first piece of music called "Still Life." It was first for harp and flute, but later she changed it for just the harp. A composer from Canada, Jean Chatillon, even wrote a special song just for her harp playing!

Anne also runs her own music company called Harp and Soul Productions. This company helps her create and release her CDs and DVDs. She writes the music and helps film the videos for these projects.

One of Anne's compositions, "Streetlife," was chosen for a special international project called 60x60 in 2006–2007. This project was started by composer Robert Voisey.

You might have heard Anne's music on different radio stations and podcasts around the world. Radio Indy even gave her the Gold Artist award for her CD called I am a Dreamer.

Anne loves to work with other artists. She has created music with poets, musicians, and composers from different countries. For example, she worked with Swedish composer Goran Jonasson, English singer Sharon Selman, American flutist Cathy Feldman, and Swedish pianist Morgan Martinsson to create the CD Pink Anacondas. They worked together online using the internet and Myspace.

Anne's Music Style

Anne Vanschothorst's music often sounds like "minimal music." This style uses simple ideas that repeat and slowly change. You can hear influences from famous composers like Philip Glass and Yann Tiersen in her work.

Her compositions on the CD Aarden (released in 2007) are very calm and peaceful. People have said they are like a mantra, which is a sound or phrase repeated to help you meditate. This music is played on real instruments and doesn't use electronic sounds.

Anne also uses improvisation in her music, which means making up music as she plays. On her CD I am a Dreamer (2008), her improvisations are influenced by jazz music, classical music, and traditional celtic music.

Sometimes, Anne adds special sounds called "soundscapes" to her recordings. These are like sound pictures that create a mood. She also includes spoken poetry in some of her pieces.

Anne also uses film to go along with her music. She takes artistic photos or changes them with special filters to create beautiful images for her compositions.
