Annette Crosbie is a talented Scottish actress, born on February 12, 1934. She is very well-known for her role as Margaret Meldrew in the popular BBC TV show One Foot in the Grave, which ran from 1990 to 2000. Annette has won two important awards called the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress. She won these awards for her amazing performances in The Six Wives of Henry VIII in 1971 and Edward the Seventh in 1976.
In 1976, she was also nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the movie The Slipper and the Rose. For the same movie, she won the Best Actress award at the Evening Standard British Film Awards. Annette has appeared in many other films, including Calendar Girls (2003) and Into the Woods (2014).

Annette's Early Life and Career Beginnings
Annette Crosbie was born in Gorebridge, Midlothian, Scotland. Her parents were Presbyterian and did not want her to become an actress. But Annette loved acting and decided to follow her dream anyway! She joined the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School when she was still a teenager.
Annette started her acting career with the Glasgow Citizens' Theatre Company in 1956. She went to Boroughmuir High School in Edinburgh. Her big chance came in 1970 when she was chosen to play Catherine of Aragon in the BBC television series The Six Wives of Henry VIII. This role was a huge success, and she won her first BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress in 1971.
Becoming a Star: Famous Roles
In 1975, Annette Crosbie played another important queen, Queen Victoria, in the ITV period drama Edward the Seventh. Her performance was so good that she won her second BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress in 1976.
She also played Cinderella's fairy godmother in the movie The Slipper and the Rose in 1976. This film was even chosen for a special showing called the Royal Film Performance. In the movie, Annette sang a song called "Suddenly It Happens." She also lent her voice to the character of Galadriel in the animated movie The Lord of the Rings in 1978.
Annette's most famous role was as Margaret Meldrew, the patient wife of Victor Meldrew, in the BBC sitcom One Foot in the Grave. She played this role for ten years, from 1990 to 2000. She also played Janet, the housekeeper, in the TV show Doctor Finlay from 1993 to 1996.
Annette has continued to act in many TV shows and films. In 2008, she appeared in a BBC show called Little Dorrit. She was also in the Doctor Who episode "The Eleventh Hour" in 2010. More recently, she appeared in the movies What We Did on Our Holiday (2014) and Dad's Army (2016). In 2019, she was in an episode of Call the Midwife, and in 2020, she appeared in the Netflix series After Life.
Annette's Achievements and Personal Life
Annette Crosbie was given a special honour called the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1998. This award recognized her great contributions to drama and acting.
Annette was married to Michael Griffiths from 1966 to 1985. They had two children, a son and a daughter. Her daughter, Selina Griffiths, is also an actress, following in her mother's footsteps!
Annette is also a big supporter of greyhound welfare. She cares deeply about these dogs and works to protect them. From 2003 to 2006, she was the president of the League Against Cruel Sports, an organization that works to stop cruel activities involving animals. She was also an honorary vice-president of the Scottish SPCA. Annette lives in Wimbledon, London.
