Anthony Black (born January 20, 2004) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Orlando Magic in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Anthony was considered one of the best young players in his age group.

Early Life and High School Sports

Anthony Black was born in Duncanville, Texas. His parents were both athletes. His mom played soccer for the Texas Longhorns and Baylor Bears. His dad played college basketball for the Baylor Bears and then played professionally overseas. When Anthony was less than a year old, his family moved to Germany because of his dad's career. He learned to speak German very well by the time he was three years old.

Anthony moved back to the United States with his mom when it was time for him to start kindergarten. He grew up in Coppell, Texas. He first went to Coppell High School. As a junior, he was a great basketball player. He scored about 16 points, grabbed almost 7 rebounds, and made over 3 assists per game.

Anthony also played American football at Coppell High School. He was a wide receiver. In two seasons, he caught 78 passes for over 1,300 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. Before his senior year, he moved to Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas. He played in 15 basketball games that season. He averaged about 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game.

Many top colleges wanted Anthony to play basketball for them. He was considered a five-star recruit, which means he was one of the best high school players in the country. He chose to play college basketball for Arkansas. He also thought about playing professional basketball right after high school in the NBA G League. Because he was so good at football, some colleges like Texas and Baylor also offered him scholarships to play football.

College Career at Arkansas

Anthony Black started his first year at Arkansas as a guard. Many people thought he would be picked early in the 2023 NBA draft. He played very well in the 2022 Maui Invitational Tournament, scoring 22 points per game. Because of his great play, he was named the Freshman of the Week in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

At the end of the season, he was chosen for the SEC All-Freshman team. Overall, he averaged about 12 points, 5 rebounds, and almost 4 assists per game. After his first year, Anthony decided to leave college early and enter the 2023 NBA draft.

Professional Career in the NBA

The Orlando Magic picked Anthony Black as the sixth player overall in the 2023 NBA draft. This was a big moment for him, starting his professional basketball journey.

Playing for the National Team

Anthony Black also played for the United States under-18 basketball team. He helped his team win the gold medal at the 2022 FIBA Under-18 Americas Championship. He showed his skills by averaging almost 5 points, 8 rebounds, and over 4 assists per game during the tournament.
