Anthony Ray Denman was born on October 30, 1979. He is a former American football player. Anthony played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills for two seasons. He was chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2001 NFL draft. Before playing professionally, he played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Early Life and High School Football
Anthony Denman grew up playing football. He earned four special awards, called "letters," for playing high school football at Rusk High School. During his time in high school, he played many different positions. He was a running back, quarterback, linebacker, defensive line player, and fullback.
In 1996, his senior year, he was named an all-state player. He ran for 1,250 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. On defense, he made 85 tackles and had one sack. Anthony was also the team captain that year. He received top honors for his junior and senior seasons. In 1995, as a junior, he ran for 1,428 yards and scored 20 touchdowns. Besides football, Anthony also earned three letters in track and field.
College Football Career
Anthony Denman played football at the University of Notre Dame. He was there from 1997 to 2000. During his college career, he made a total of 207 tackles and nine sacks.
In 2000, he was recognized as a second-team All-American by the Associated Press. This is a big honor for college players. That same year, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the Fighting Irish. He was also a team captain during his senior year.
Professional Football Journey
Anthony Denman was picked by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2001 NFL draft. He was the 213th player chosen overall. He signed with the Jaguars on June 7, 2001. However, he was released by the team on August 27, 2001.
He then signed with the Cleveland Browns on August 28, 2001. He was released again on September 2. But he rejoined the Browns' practice squad on September 7. He was then moved to the main team roster on September 19. Anthony played in eleven games for the Browns during the 2001 season. The Browns released him on September 1, 2002.
After that, the Buffalo Bills signed Anthony Denman on September 3, 2002. He played in sixteen games for the Bills during the 2002 season.
