Anthony Keith-Falconer, 7th Earl of Kintore (born April 20, 1794 – died July 11, 1844) was a Scottish nobleman. He was also known as the 9th Lord Falconer of Halkerton and 7th Lord Keith of Inverurie and Keith Hall. He was the leader, or Chief, of Clan Keith.
Early Life and Family
Anthony Keith-Falconer was born on April 20, 1794. His parents were William Keith-Falconer, 6th Earl of Kintore and Maria Bannerman. He had an older sister, Lady Maria, and a younger brother, William. William was a Captain in the Royal Navy.
His grandparents were Anthony Keith-Falconer, 5th Earl of Kintore and Christina Elizabeth Sichterman. On his mother's side, his grandparents were Sir Alexander Bannerman, 6th Baronet and Mary Gordon.
Anthony went to school at Sparsholt in Berkshire. Later, he studied at St Mary Hall, Oxford University.
Career and Interests
When his father passed away on October 6, 1812, Anthony became the 7th Earl of Kintore. This meant he inherited his father's title and responsibilities. On July 5, 1838, he was also given the title of Baron Kintore. This new title was part of the Peerage of the United Kingdom.
He inherited Keith Hall, which was his family's main home in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. At Keith Hall, he started keeping hunting dogs. From 1826 to 1830, Lord Kintore was the master of the Old Berkshire Hunt. He was known for being a very brave and daring rider. He enjoyed riding horses and jumping over fences.
After leaving the hunt, he returned to Keith Hall. There, he focused on farming. He managed his farm on a very large scale.
Personal Life
Lord Kintore was married twice. His first marriage was on June 14, 1817, to Juliet Renny. She was the fourth daughter of Robert Renny. Sadly, Juliet passed away just two years later, on July 9, 1819. They did not have any children together.
On August 27, 1821, Lord Kintore married Louisa Hawkins. She was the daughter of Francis Hawkins. Anthony and Louisa had four children together:
- Lt. Hon. William Adrian Keith-Falconer, who was known as Lord Inverurie (1822–1843). He died in a hunting accident and was not married.
- Lady Isabella Catherine Keith-Falconer (1824–1870). She married Henry Grant in 1847.
- Francis Alexander Keith-Falconer, 8th Earl of Kintore (1828–1880). He was a Major in the 4th Dragoons. He married his cousin, Louisa Madeleine Hawkins, in 1851.
- Maj. Hon. Charles James Keith-Falconer (1832–1889). He worked for the Inland Revenue from 1874 to 1889. He married Caroline Diana Aldridge in 1857.
Louisa and Lord Kintore divorced on March 3, 1840. Lord Kintore did not marry again after his divorce. He passed away on July 11, 1844.
