Anthony Lanier II, born on May 8, 1993, is an American professional football player. He plays as a defensive end for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Before joining the pros, he played college football at Alabama A&M. He started his professional career in 2016 with the Washington Redskins.

Playing Professional Football
Anthony Lanier II has played for several teams in both the NFL and the CFL. He is known for his skills as a defensive end, a position that helps stop the opposing team's offense.
Time with the Washington Redskins
After the 2016 NFL draft, Anthony Lanier II signed with the Washington Redskins on May 6, 2016. He impressed the team during training camp and the preseason. This helped him earn a spot on the 53-man roster on September 3, 2016.
In his first NFL game, he recovered a fumble from the Bengals' quarterback. Later, in December 2016, he was placed on injured reserve.
During the 2017 Washington Redskins season, Lanier was inactive for the first six games. In Week 11, he recorded his first career quarterback sack against the New Orleans Saints. He had a great game in Week 15 against the Arizona Cardinals, getting two sacks, deflecting three passes, and forcing a fumble. On September 3, 2018, the Redskins released him due to an injury.
Playing for the Los Angeles Chargers
On November 7, 2018, Lanier joined the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad. He was moved to the active roster on December 20, 2018.
The Chargers released him on August 31, 2019, but signed him back to their practice squad the next day. His contract with the team ended on January 6, 2020.
Short Stays with Other NFL Teams
On January 8, 2020, Lanier signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he was released by the Chiefs on April 28, 2020.
He also had a tryout with the Detroit Lions on August 19, 2020. Later, on August 29, 2020, the New Orleans Saints signed him. He was placed on injured reserve on September 5, 2020, and then released with an injury settlement on September 11.
Moving to the CFL: Saskatchewan Roughriders
On March 2, 2021, Anthony Lanier II signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played for the Roughriders until 2024.
Joining the Toronto Argonauts
On February 12, 2025, it was announced that Lanier had signed a contract with the Toronto Argonauts. He is currently playing for them.
