Professional Football Journey
Starting with the Washington Redskins
After the 2016 NFL draft, Anthony Lanier II joined the Washington Redskins on May 6, 2016. He played very well during training camp and the preseason games. Because of his strong performance, the team decided to add him to their main 53-player roster.
In his very first NFL game, which was in Week 8, Anthony recovered a fumble. A fumble happens when a player drops the ball. He had to miss some games later that year due to an injury.
In 2017, Anthony started to shine even more. In Week 11, he got his first career sack. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. He had a fantastic game in Week 15. In that game, he recorded two sacks, blocked three passes, and forced another fumble. He later left the team due to an injury in September 2018.
Moving to the Los Angeles Chargers
On November 7, 2018, Anthony joined the Los Angeles Chargers. He was first signed to their practice squad. The practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. They can be called up to play if needed.
He was promoted to the active roster on December 20, 2018. This meant he could now play in regular games. On August 31, 2019, the Chargers released him. However, he was signed back to their practice squad the very next day. His contract with the practice squad ended in January 2020.
Time with the Kansas City Chiefs
On January 8, 2020, Anthony signed a special contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. This type of contract is called a "reserve/future contract." It means a player is signed for the next season before the current one ends. He was released by the Chiefs in April 2020. Later that year, he had a tryout with the Detroit Lions.
A Short Stay with the New Orleans Saints
Anthony was signed by the New Orleans Saints on August 29, 2020. However, he was placed on injured reserve shortly after. This means he couldn't play due to an injury. He later left the team in September 2020.
Playing in Canada with the Saskatchewan Roughriders
On March 2, 2021, Anthony Lanier II signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. This team plays in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He has been playing for them since then.
