Anthony Lamar Tolliver (born June 1, 1985) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Creighton Bluejays. Tolliver spent 13 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for many teams, including the San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Bobcats, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies, and Philadelphia 76ers. He also played in the NBA Development League (now called the G League) and for teams in Germany and Turkey.

High School and College Basketball Journey
Anthony Tolliver decided to play for Creighton University in 2002. He was one of four players from his Kickapoo High School team to play Division I college basketball. His high school team was ranked 12th in the USA and won the Missouri Class 5A State Championship in his senior year (2002–03).
Playing at Creighton University
At Creighton, Tolliver started as a reserve player in his first year. He played in 27 games. In his second year, he became a starter, playing in 30 out of 34 games. He helped Creighton win the 2005 MVC tournament championship.
During his junior year, Tolliver earned second-team All-MVC honors. He made a memorable last-second shot to win a game against Wichita State in January 2006.
In his senior year, Tolliver was named first-team All-MVC. He was also a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS award. He helped Creighton reach the NCAA Tournament with a 22–11 record. Tolliver started all 33 games that season. He scored over 1,000 points in his college career. This milestone happened in his final college game against Nevada. While playing for Creighton, he became very good at drawing charging fouls on defense.
Anthony Tolliver's Professional Career
After college, Anthony Tolliver was not chosen in the 2007 NBA draft. However, he still pursued a professional basketball career.
Early Career and NBA Start
Tolliver spent time with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the preseason of 2007. He made their opening-day roster but did not play in a regular season game. He then played for the Iowa Energy in the NBA Development League (now G League). He averaged 11.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game there.
Later, he joined Eisbären Bremerhaven in Germany. He averaged 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. In July 2008, the San Antonio Spurs signed him. He played 11 games with the Spurs, averaging 3.5 points and 2.3 rebounds. He also spent time with their G League team, the Austin Toros.
Tolliver had several short stints with different teams. He returned to the Iowa Energy multiple times. He also played for Galatasaray Café Crown in Turkey and the Idaho Stampede in the G League.
Joining the Golden State Warriors
In December 2009, the Portland Trail Blazers signed Tolliver for a short time due to many injuries on their team. After two games, he returned to Idaho.
On January 17, 2010, the Golden State Warriors signed Tolliver. He signed a contract for the rest of the 2009–10 season in February 2010. On April 7, 2010, Tolliver had his best game, scoring a career-high 34 points. He also grabbed 8 rebounds. For that season with the Warriors, he averaged 12.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
Moving to Minnesota and Atlanta
In 2010, Tolliver joined the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played with them for two seasons. In September 2012, he signed with the Atlanta Hawks for one year.
Charlotte, Phoenix, and Detroit
On August 19, 2013, Tolliver signed with the Charlotte Bobcats. In July 2014, he signed a two-year contract with the Phoenix Suns. He played 24 games for Phoenix. On December 24, 2014, he was traded to the Detroit Pistons. He played for the Pistons until 2016.
Sacramento and Return to Detroit
On July 9, 2016, Tolliver signed with the Sacramento Kings. He played there for one season. On June 1, 2017, the Kings waived him.
He returned to the Detroit Pistons on July 14, 2017. In that season, he was second in the league for 3-point shooting percentage, making 46.1% of his shots. Only his teammate, Reggie Bullock, shot better.
Later Career Teams
On July 9, 2018, Tolliver signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves again. In July 2019, he returned to the Portland Trail Blazers.
On January 20, 2020, Tolliver was traded back to the Sacramento Kings. He played 9 games before being waived on February 29, 2020.
On March 2, 2020, the Memphis Grizzlies signed Tolliver to a 10-day contract. He later rejoined the Grizzlies for the restart of the 2020 NBA season.
Philadelphia 76ers and Final Stints
On April 12, 2021, Tolliver signed a 10-day contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. He signed two more contracts, staying with them for the rest of the season. He played 11 games for the 76ers. On August 27, 2021, he was waived by the team.
On December 26, 2021, the New Orleans Pelicans signed Tolliver for 10 days. However, this contract was canceled the next day because he tested positive for COVID-19.
Personal Life and Charity Work
Anthony Tolliver is married and has four children. His mother, Donna Lewis, was a teacher who passed away in 2008. Tolliver created a special scholarship at Drury University to honor her memory.
In 2020, Tolliver was part of a group of NBA players who visited the Vatican. They met with Pope Francis to talk about important issues like social and economic fairness.
Tolliver is also a member of a group called the "Starting Five." This group includes other NBA players like Malcolm Brogdon, Joe Harris, Justin Anderson, and Garrett Temple. Their goal was to raise money through a charity called Hoops2O. By February 2020, their charity had helped build ten water wells in Tanzania and Kenya. These wells brought clean water to over 52,000 people.
