Anthony Lamar Tolliver (born June 1, 1985) is an American former professional basketball player. He played as a power forward. Tolliver spent 13 seasons playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He also played in the NBA's minor league, the NBA Development League, and for teams in Germany and Turkey.

Early Life and College Career

Anthony Tolliver grew up in Springfield, Missouri. He went to Kickapoo High School. His high school basketball team was very successful. In his senior year (2002–03), they were ranked 12th in the USA and won the Missouri Class 5A State Championship.

After high school, Tolliver went to Creighton University.

Playing at Creighton

During his first year at Creighton, he played as a backup. He appeared in 27 games. In his second year, he became a starter. He helped his team win the 2005 MVC tournament championship.

In his third year, Tolliver was named to the second-team All-MVC. He even made a game-winning shot against Wichita State! In his final year, he was named first-team All-MVC. He helped Creighton get back to the NCAA Tournament. Tolliver scored over 1,000 points in his college career. He was known for being good at drawing "charging penalties" from opponents.

Professional Basketball Journey

After college, Anthony Tolliver was not chosen in the NBA draft in 2007. But he didn't give up! He started his professional career in the NBA Development League (now called the G League).

Starting in the D-League and Overseas

Tolliver first played for the Iowa Energy in the 2007–08 season. He averaged 11.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He also played in Germany for Eisbären Bremerhaven. There, he averaged 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds.

Making it to the NBA

In 2008, Tolliver got his chance in the NBA. He signed with the San Antonio Spurs. He played some games for the Spurs. He also spent time with their D-League team, the Austin Toros. He kept moving between the D-League and NBA teams. He played for the Iowa Energy again. He also played in Turkey for Galatasaray Café Crown.

In December 2009, he played for the Idaho Stampede in the D-League. Soon after, the Portland Trail Blazers signed him. They needed extra players because many of their players were injured.

Finding His Place in the NBA

Tolliver then signed with the Golden State Warriors in 2010. He played very well for them. On April 7, 2010, he scored a career-high 34 points in one game! For the 2009–10 season with the Warriors, he averaged 12.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

Personal Life and Charity Work

Anthony Tolliver is married and has four children. His mother, Donna Lewis, was a teacher. She passed away in 2008. Tolliver created a scholarship at Drury University to honor her memory.

In 2020, Tolliver was part of a special group of NBA players. They visited the Vatican to talk with Pope Francis about important issues like social and economic fairness.

Tolliver is also a member of a group called the "Starting Five." This group, which includes other NBA players like Malcolm Brogdon and Joe Harris, works to help people get clean water. They started a charity called Hoops2O. Their goal was to raise money to build wells in East Africa. By February 2020, their charity had built ten wells in Tanzania and Kenya. These wells bring clean water to over 52,000 people!
