The Antoine River is a river about 50 miles (81 km) long in southwestern Arkansas, United States. It flows into the Little Missouri River. From there, its water travels through the Ouachita and Red rivers. Eventually, it reaches the mighty Mississippi River. This means the Antoine River is part of the huge area of land that drains into the Mississippi River. Sometimes, people have also called it "Antoine Creek." There's even a smaller stream that feeds into it called the "Little Antoine River."

Where the Antoine River Flows

The Antoine River starts in northeastern Pike County, near a town called Amity. It flows mostly towards the south and southeast. The river passes by the town of Antoine. For most of its journey, the river acts as the border between Pike County and Clark County.

The Antoine River joins the Little Missouri River about 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Okolona. As it flows, the river crosses a hilly area called the Athens Piedmont Plateau. These hills are like the lower parts of the Ouachita Mountains.

A cool fact about the Antoine River is that its water level can change very quickly after it rains. It is mostly a clear and rocky stream. It is also special because it is the last river of its size in the Athens Plateau that has not been blocked by a dam.

What Are the Antoine River's Tributaries?

A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger one. Most of the streams that flow into the Antoine River are small and rocky. They usually come from the west side of the river.

Some of these streams include Wall Creek, Woodall Creek, Camp Creek, Suck Creek, and Wolf Creek. On the east side, you'll find Little Antoine Creek, Mathews Creek, and Brushy Creek. The biggest stream that flows into the Antoine River is Wolf Creek. It is located in the southern part of Pike County.
