Antonella Grassi is a mathematician from Italy. She is an expert in two interesting areas of math: algebraic geometry and string theory. She is also a special member, called a Fellow, of the American Mathematical Society.

Her Journey in Education

Antonella Grassi earned her Ph.D. (a very high university degree) from Duke University. Her main teacher and guide during this time was David R. Morrison. Her special research paper, called a dissertation, was about "Minimal Models of Elliptic Threefolds."

What She Does Now

Today, Antonella Grassi is a Professor of Mathematics. She teaches at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has also helped guide two students who were working on their own Ph.D. degrees. One student was at the University of Pennsylvania, and the other was at the Università di Torino in Torino, Italy.

Professor Grassi is also very involved in a group called "Women in Math" at her university. She helps encourage and support other women in mathematics. She has also been a leader and mentor in a special program for women mathematicians at the Institute for Advanced Study. In 2007, she helped organize a program about Algebraic Geometry and Group Actions.

Awards and Recognition

In 2018, Antonella Grassi was chosen to be a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society. This is a big honor! She received this award because of her important work in algebraic geometry and mathematical physics. She was also recognized for her great leadership in mentoring programs.
