Antonina Ivanovna Pojarkova (born 1897, died 1980) was a Russian scientist. She was an expert on the plants (or flora) found in the Caucasus region. Antonina was especially interested in ferns and seed plants. These are plants that grow from seeds. She discovered and named 230 different types of land plants. This was one of the highest numbers named by any female scientist.

Antonina Pojarkova was a very important botanist. She helped create huge books about plants. These books are still used by scientists today.
Editing Plant Books
Pojarkova was a main editor for a five-volume book series. This series was called Flora of the Murmansk region. It was published by the USSR Academy of Sciences.
She also worked with Vladimir Leontyevich Komarov. Together, they worked on a 30-volume series called Flora SSSR. This huge collection of books was later translated into English. It became known as Flora of the USSR.
Discovering New Plants
Antonina Pojarkova did more than just edit books. She also found many new plant species. Her work is special because she created new ways to group plants.
For example, she made new groups within larger plant families. She created the Trilobata section for maple trees. She also made the Orientales series for hawthorn plants.

A special group of plants was named after her. This plant genus is called Pojarkovia. It belongs to the daisy family, which is called Asteraceae. This shows how important her work was in botany.
