Antonio Leocadio Guzmán Águeda was an important Venezuelan politician, journalist, and military leader. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela, on November 5, 1801, and passed away on November 13, 1884.
Antonio Guzmán was the father of Antonio Guzmán Blanco, who also became a very famous leader. He was also the person who started the Liberal Party. From 1847 to 1851, he served as the vice president of Venezuela under President José Tadeo Monagas.
Early Life and Education
Antonio Leocadio Guzmán Águeda was born in the city of Caracas on November 5, 1801. His mother was Josefa Agueda Garcia. His father was Antonio de Mata Guzmán, a captain in the Queen battalion, a military group stationed in Caracas.
In 1812, when Antonio was young, his father sent him to Spain. This was to keep him safe from the difficult times in Venezuela. While in Spain, he received his education from teachers who believed in liberal ideas. He returned to Caracas in 1823.
