2005 Season

The 2005 season was a big year for Antonio Pittman. He rushed for 1,331 yards and scored seven touchdowns. This was the 10th best single-season rushing record in Ohio State history. Only Archie Griffin gained more yards as a sophomore. Pittman's rushing total was also among the top in the NCAA and the Big Ten Conference that season. Besides running, he also caught 17 passes for 161 yards.

In his very first game, Pittman rushed for 100 yards. His best game was against the University of Minnesota, where he gained 186 yards and scored his first touchdown of the season. He scored the winning touchdown against the Michigan Wolverines in 2005. This important three-yard touchdown run happened with only 24 seconds left in the game. In the next game, he helped win the 2006 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He made an amazing 60-yard touchdown run with less than two minutes left, even though he had an injured hamstring. In 2006, Ohio State's quarterback, Troy Smith, praised Pittman. He said that Antonio was one of the top three running backs in the country.

During his three seasons at Ohio State, Pittman played in 35 games. He averaged more than five yards per carry and about 84 rushing yards per game. He is currently ranked 8th on Ohio State's all-time rushing list.

At the start of the 2006 season, some people thought Pittman might share playing time with a freshman player. However, Pittman's strong performance in 2005 and his early success in 2006 secured his spot as the main starting running back.

As the starter, Pittman continued to achieve impressive results. He rushed for over 100 yards and scored touchdowns in games against Northern Illinois, Cincinnati, Penn State, and Iowa. He also scored a touchdown in a big game against the #2 ranked Texas Longhorns. In the BCS National Championship game against the Florida Gators, Pittman rushed for 62 yards and scored one of Ohio State's two touchdowns. On January 15, 2007, Pittman decided to leave college early and enter the NFL draft.
