Antony Starr (born 25 October 1975) is a famous actor from New Zealand. He is best known for his exciting roles on television. You might know him as Jethro and Van West in the show Outrageous Fortune. He also played Lucas Hood in the series Banshee. Most recently, he gained worldwide fame for playing the superhero Homelander in the Amazon Prime Video series The Boys.
Antony Starr has won several awards for his acting. For example, he won an AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for the Australian film Wish You Were Here in 2012. He was also nominated for a New Zealand Film Award for Best Actor for his role in After the Waterfall.

Early Life and Interests
Antony Starr was born in Wellington, New Zealand. When he was growing up, he loved surfing. He also trained in karate, which is a martial art.
Antony is very good with languages. He can speak English, Indonesian, Norwegian, and Spanish. He went to Rangitoto College and finished in 1993. Even though he was a good student, he sometimes missed school. He took drama classes and worked as an extra in different shows. This helped him decide to become a full-time actor. Before acting full-time, he also worked at a petrol station.
Becoming a Well-Known Actor
Antony Starr started his acting career in the early 1990s. He had a small part in Shortland Street. He also appeared as a guest in Xena: Warrior Princess.
In 2001, Antony got a role in Mercy Peak. He played Todd Van der Velter for three seasons. He also played the brother of a character named Waverley Wilson in the soap opera Shortland Street.
One of his most famous early roles was playing twin brothers Van and Jethro West in Outrageous Fortune. This role won him many awards in 2007. These included the Air New Zealand Screen Award for Best Actor and the award for Best Actor at the Qantas Television Awards. Readers of the TV Guide also voted him Best Actor.
While filming Outrageous Fortune, Antony also worked on the movie No. 2. He has been in other films too, like The World's Fastest Indian, Without a Paddle, and In My Father's Den.
Later, in 2011, Antony joined the Australian police show Rush. He played Senior Sergeant Charlie Lewis. He also had a role in the show Lowdown.
From 2013 to 2016, Antony Starr starred in the TV series Banshee. This was his first main role on U.S. television. He played John Smith, a former prisoner who pretends to be the new Sheriff of Banshee. In 2016, he also played Garrett Hawthorne in the show American Gothic.
Worldwide Fame with The Boys
In 2018, Antony Starr was cast as The Homelander in The Boys. This show is based on a popular comic book. In the series, he acts alongside Karl Urban, who is also from New Zealand. Antony joked that it was "a pretty bizarre mix-up" to have two New Zealanders playing an American hero and an Englishman.
The first season of The Boys came out in 2019 and was very popular. Seasons two, three, and four also received great reviews and were very successful. Antony's acting as Homelander has been highly praised. Many people say his performance is one of the best parts of the show.
Critics have called his acting "chilling" and "grounded." Some even say Homelander is "TV's most intriguing villain." Antony Starr has also played Homelander in spin-off shows like The Boys Presents: Diabolical and Gen V. He even voiced the character for the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
In 2023, Antony Starr was in two movies. He appeared in the action drama The Covenant with Jake Gyllenhaal. He also played a main role in the horror movie Cobweb. Critics have said that Antony is great at playing characters who seem normal but are actually troubled. He is expected to appear in the fifth season of The Boys and in the film G20.
