Antti Aleksi Siirala was born on May 16, 1979, in Helsinki, Finland. He is a famous Finnish pianist known for his amazing musical skills.
Antti Siirala's Music Career
Antti Siirala became known around the world after winning the First Prize in the 10th Vienna Beethoven competition. He was the youngest person in the competition! He also won an award for playing a difficult Beethoven Sonata called “Hammerklavier” really well.
After that, he won more big piano competitions:
- The London International Piano Competition in 2000.
- The Dublin International Piano Competition in 2003.
- The Leeds International Piano Competition in 2003.
In February 2005, Antti Siirala played his first big solo concert, called a "debut recital," at the Cologne Philharmonie in Germany.
He has played with many great orchestras. In 2009 and 2010, he performed with the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He also played with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra in October 2009.
In April 2010, Antti Siirala was one of only four pianists chosen to play in a special piano series for the Berliner Philharmoniker. The other pianists were also very famous, like Lang Lang. In August 2010, he played with the Mostly Mozart Orchestra at the Lincoln Center in New York City.
Antti Siirala has recorded music by famous composers like Schubert and Brahms. These recordings even won awards from Gramophone Magazine.
While he loves playing music by Beethoven and Brahms, Antti Siirala is also very interested in new music. He has performed new pieces by composers like Walter Gieseler and Kalevi Aho for the very first time. He also plays a special piano piece called “Balladen” by Kaija Saariaho.
