In the late 19th century, Antwerp was the largest village in Paulding County; its economy was driven by a lucrative local logging industry. After the train station closed in 1976, it was purchased by the local historical society; today, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the "Antwerp Norfolk and Western Depot".
