Anxious Bay is a large bay in the Australian state of South Australia. It's located on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula, about 275 kilometers (170 miles) northwest of Adelaide. A famous explorer named Matthew Flinders gave the bay its name on February 21, 1802. It is one of four special 'historic bays' along the South Australian coast.

Where is Anxious Bay?
Anxious Bay is found between two points of land called Cape Radstock and Cape Finniss. These capes are on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula. The bay acts as the entrance to smaller coastal inlets. These include Baird Bay and Venus Bay.
The Australian government considers Anxious Bay a 'historic bay'. This means its waters are treated as part of Australia's land, not just open sea. This is based on a law called the Seas and Submerged Lands Act 1973.
Who Discovered Anxious Bay?
The first European to explore and name Anxious Bay was Matthew Flinders. He named it on February 11, 1802, during his journey around Australia.
Towns and Harbors
There are a few small towns located along the shores of Anxious Bay. These include Venus Bay and Baird Bay. Another town, Port Kenny, can be reached through Venus Bay. Both Venus Bay and Port Kenny have jetties. Jetties are structures that extend into the water, allowing boats to dock.
What is Anxious Bay Used For?
Since 2013, a part of the bay near Waldegrave Island has been set aside for aquaculture. Aquaculture is like farming, but it's done in water. It's used to grow things like fish or shellfish.
