History of Appleton City

Appleton City was first known as Arlington. It was officially planned and laid out in 1870. The city got its current name from D.S. Appleton. He was a person from the D. Appleton & Company. Mr. Appleton gave a $500 library to the city.

The Hudson City School is an important building in Appleton City. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. This means it is a special place that is protected because of its history.
