Arakanese people facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Arakanese are a group of people who live in Myanmar. Most of them live along the coast in a place called Rakhine State, which used to be known as Arakan State. They make up a big part of Myanmar's population, possibly more than 5.53%, but it's hard to know the exact number because there isn't a recent, accurate census.

The Arakanese people are also known as the Rakhine people. They live in other countries too! You can find them in the southeastern parts of Bangladesh, especially in areas like Chittagong and Barisal.

Arakanese in Other Countries

A group of Arakanese descendants has lived in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh since at least the 16th century. These people are called the Marma people. They have been in that area for a long time, ever since the Arakanese kingdom ruled the Chittagong region.

Arakanese descendants also live in India, in the northern state of Tripura. Their history there goes back to when the Arakanese kingdom was powerful and its kings ruled Tripura. In northeast India, these Arakanese people are sometimes called the Mog. In Bengali, the Marma people and other Arakanese are known as the Magh people.
