History of Arcadia
Arcadia was first planned out in 1871. It got its name from a beautiful region called Arcadia in ancient Greece. The town officially became a city in 1881. Before that, in 1880, about 450 people lived there.
The town was originally called "Tip Top." This name was chosen because it sits on the Missouri-Mississippi Divide. This means it's on a high point where water flows either towards the Missouri River or the Mississippi River. It was also known as one of Iowa's highest towns.
In 1880, a big fire destroyed most of the businesses in Arcadia. Only two buildings were saved. But the people of Arcadia worked hard to rebuild. Most of the damaged buildings were fixed within a year.
