Ardbrin (which means "Bran’s height" in Irish) is a special area of land in County Down, Northern Ireland. It's known as a townland, which is a traditional way of dividing land in Ireland. Ardbrin covers about 1,007 acres, making it quite a large area.
It is located within the civil parish of Annaclone. This means it's part of a larger historical church area. Ardbrin is the biggest townland in this parish. You can find an old cemetery there, which shows where an ancient church once stood. Part of the village of Annaclone is also located in Ardbrin. The rest of the village is in a nearby townland called Tullintanvally.
Ancient Discoveries
Something very exciting was found in Ardbrin a long time ago! In the 1800s, an ancient bronze trumpet was discovered. It's called the 'Ardbrin Horn'. This amazing find came from a crannog in Ardbrin. A crannog is like an old, artificial island built in a lake or bog.
The Ardbrin Horn is very long, about 1.42 meters (that's almost 5 feet!). It's made from many pieces of bronze metal that were shaped and then joined together. Imagine, it took 1,094 tiny metal rivets to hold it all together! People think this horn was probably used for special events or important ceremonies. It might have been played to make a big sound or just to show off. Today, you can see the Ardbrin Horn if you visit the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin. It's a real piece of history!
