The Golden Fleece
Jason wins the Golden Fleece

Jason was a famous hero from ancient Greek myths. He was known for leading a group of brave adventurers called the Argonauts. Their most exciting quest was to find the legendary Golden Fleece. Jason was the son of Aeson, who was supposed to be the king of a city called Iolcos. Later, Jason married a powerful sorceress named Medea. His family also had a connection to the gods, as he was the great-grandson of Hermes, the messenger god.

Jason's adventures were told in many old stories from ancient Greece and Rome. These included an epic poem called Argonautica and a play named Medea. In modern times, Jason has appeared in movies and TV shows. These include the 1963 film Jason and the Argonauts and a TV miniseries from 2000 with the same name.

Jason's Great Adventure

The Argo
The Argo

Jason was the captain of a special ship called the Argo. The brave men who sailed with him were known as the Argonauts. This name comes from the ship's name, Argo, and the word ending "-naut," which means sailor. You can hear "-naut" in other words about the sea, like "nautical."

Jason and the Argonauts set out on a dangerous journey to find the Golden Fleece. This was a magical golden sheep's fleece, a very valuable treasure. During their quest, Jason met and fell in love with Medea. She was the daughter of the Golden Fleece's owner, King Aeëtes. Medea was a powerful sorceress, and she used her magic to help Jason get the Golden Fleece from her father.

After getting the Fleece, Jason and Medea returned to Jason's home city, Iolcos. Medea then used her magic to help Jason take control of Iolcos from his half-brother, Pelias. Later, Jason and Medea moved to the Greek city of Corinth. To secure their place there, Jason married the princess of Corinth.
