Arlington (also known as Rockdale) is a small community in Carbon County, Wyoming, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP) because it's a recognized community, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In 2010, only 25 people lived there.

Where is Arlington?

Arlington is located where two important roads meet: Interstate 80 and WYO 13. It's found northwest of Laramie and east of Rawlins, which is the main town of Carbon County.

Arlington sits quite high up, at about 7,707 feet (2,349 meters) above sea level. The community covers an area of about 10.5 square kilometers (about 4 square miles), and all of this area is land.

A Look Back at Arlington's History

Arlington began around 1860. In its early days, it was an important stop along the Overland Trail. This was a famous route used by pioneers and travelers heading west. The community started with a bridge and a place for stagecoaches to stop at a stream called Rock Creek. Because of this, it was known as Rockdale until the early 1900s.

In 1983, Arlington was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a special place recognized for its history from the 1800s.

A post office was first set up in Rock Creek in 1882. It was called "Rock Dale." Later, from 1902 to 1943, a post office named Arlington operated there, with a short break in 1924 and 1925.
