Arnab Ranjan Goswami (born 7 March 1973) is a well-known Indian news anchor and journalist. He is currently the leader and editor-in-chief of Republic Media Network, which is a big news organization.
Before starting Republic TV, Arnab Goswami was the editor-in-chief and a news anchor for Times Now and ET Now from 2006 to 2016. He also worked at NDTV and The Telegraph. While at Times Now, he hosted a popular live debate show called The Newshour. This show aired at 9 PM on weekdays and made him very famous. He also had a special interview show called Frankly Speaking with Arnab. In November 2016, Goswami left Times Now. His new news channel, Republic TV, started in May 2017.

About Arnab Goswami
Early Life and Family
Arnab Goswami was born in Guwahati, Assam, India, on March 7, 1973. He comes from an Assamese family. His father, Manoranjan Goswami, was in the Indian Army for nearly 30 years and retired as a colonel. After leaving the army, his father joined a political party and wrote many articles and books. Arnab's mother, Suprabha Gain-Goswami, is also an author.
His grandfathers were also notable people. His paternal grandfather, Rajani Kanta Goswami, was a lawyer. His maternal grandfather, Gaurisankar Bhattacharyya, was a politician who led the main opposing group in the Assam government for many years. Arnab's maternal uncle, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, is also a politician in Assam.
Arnab Goswami is married to Samyabrata Ray Goswami, who is also a journalist and helps run Republic TV. They have a son named Che Goswami.
Education Journey
Since his father was an army officer, Arnab Goswami went to different schools across India. He finished his 10th grade at Mount St Mary's School in New Delhi. He completed his 12th grade at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Jabalpur.
Goswami earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Hindu College at Delhi University. In 1994, he completed his Master's degree in Social Anthropology from St. Antony's College at Oxford University in the UK. He received a special scholarship called the Felix Scholar to study there. In 2000, he was also a visiting researcher at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University.
Career in Journalism
Starting Out: The Telegraph and NDTV
Arnab Goswami began his career as a journalist with The Telegraph in Kolkata. Less than a year later, he moved to Delhi and joined NDTV, another news channel.
He worked at NDTV from 1996 to 2006. At NDTV, he hosted daily news shows, including News Tonight. His show Newsnight helped him win an award for the Best News Anchor of Asia in 2004.
Leading Times Now
In 2006, Goswami left NDTV to become the editor-in-chief of the newly launched Times Now news channel.
His show The Newshour became very popular. It aired live at 9 PM and featured important people like Parvez Musharraf. He also hosted Frankly Speaking with Arnab, where he interviewed famous personalities. These included former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, the Dalai Lama, and former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Arnab Goswami was also the first TV anchor to interview Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he took office in 2014.
On November 1, 2016, Goswami resigned from Times Now. He said he wanted to report news in his own way and felt there wasn't enough freedom. He hosted the last episode of The Newshour Debate a couple of weeks later.

Launching Republic TV
Republic TV was started with funding from various investors, including Arnab Goswami and his wife. The channel launched on May 6, 2017, as a free-to-watch channel. Many people who worked with Goswami at Times Now also joined Republic TV.
Arnab Goswami became the managing director and Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV. In May 2019, Goswami bought more shares, giving him almost full ownership of Republic TV. His company stated that he personally owns over 82 percent of Republic TV.
Resigning from Editors Guild
On April 21, 2020, during his live show, Arnab Goswami announced his resignation from the Editors Guild. He said that the Guild was not speaking up enough about important issues in journalism.
His Book
In 2002, Arnab Goswami wrote a book titled Combating Terrorism: The Legal Challenge.
Honors and Awards
Arnab Goswami has received several awards for his work in journalism:
- 2003: Best Presenter or Anchor (Runner up) at the Asian Television Awards.
- 2008: Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism (TV).
- 2010: TV Personality of the Year by GQ India.
- 2010: Assamese of the Year by News Live.
- 2014: News Anchor of the Year at IAA Leadership Awards.
- 2018: Mediaperson of the Year Award at IAA Leadership Awards.
- On December 8, 2019, he was chosen as the President of the News Broadcasting Federation, a new group of about 78 news channels.
