History of Arnaudville
Arnaudville is one of the oldest towns in St. Landry Parish. It was first settled by French people in the late 1700s. Before that, it was a village for the Attakapas Native American tribe.
The town was first called La Murière. Later, it was known as La Jonction, which means "The Junction" in French. This name fit well because the town is located where two important waterways, Bayou Teche and Bayou Fusilier, meet.
In the 1800s, the town was renamed Arnaudville. This happened after the Arnaud family gave a lot of land. They donated the land to help build a church for everyone in the community. The town officially became a town in 1870.
Geography
Arnaudville is located right on the Bayou Teche. This bayou flows from St. Landry Parish into St. Martin Parish. Because it's where Bayou Teche and Bayou Fuselier meet, many French-speaking locals still call it "La Jonction."
The town covers a small area, about 0.7 square miles (1.9 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
