Arnold F. Jeter (born February 28, 1939 – died January 1, 2022) was an important figure in American football. He was both a player and a coach. He led college football teams at Delaware State University and New Jersey City University (NJCU). Overall, his teams won 28 games, lost 63, and tied 1.
Jeter grew up in Steubenville, Ohio. He played college football at Kent State University. He was a halfback, which is a running back position. In his senior year, he was the second-highest scorer on his team.

Arnold Jeter's Coaching Journey
Arnold Jeter started his coaching career with younger players. He coached football at junior high and high schools in Warren, Ohio. Later, he coached college freshmen. From 1966 to 1967, he was a backfield coach. This was for the freshman football team at the University of Iowa. While there, he also earned a master's degree. His degree was in physical education.
Leading College Teams
Jeter got his first main coaching job at Delaware State University. He coached the team from 1967 to 1974. During this time, his team's record was 25 wins, 48 losses, and 1 tie. In 1973, the team had a tough year. They finished with no wins and 11 losses.
After Delaware State, Jeter worked as an assistant coach. He helped out at several big universities. These included Marshall, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Rutgers. He worked at these schools from 1975 to 1992.
Return to Head Coaching
In 1995, Jeter became an assistant coach again. This time, it was at New Jersey City University (NJCU). He stayed in this role for six seasons. In January 2001, he became the head coach for NJCU. He was the ninth head coach for their football program.
Jeter coached the NJCU Gothic Knights for two years. After the 2002 season, NJCU stopped its football program. This decision was made because of budget cuts. Even after football ended, Jeter stayed at NJCU. He worked as an assistant athletic director.
Personal Life and Passing
Arnold Jeter passed away on January 1, 2022. He was 82 years old.
