Arnold Kopelson (born February 14, 1935 – died October 8, 2018) was an American film producer. A film producer helps make movies happen. They are involved in many parts of creating a film, from getting money to hiring people and overseeing the whole project.
Kopelson was known for producing many popular movies. Some of his most famous films include Platoon, Seven, Outbreak, The Fugitive, and The Devil's Advocate.
Life and career
Arnold Kopelson was born in Brooklyn, New York. He studied law and became a lawyer. For many years, he worked with banks and financial groups that helped fund movies.
Later, Kopelson started a company called Inter-Ocean Film Sales, Ltd. with Anne Feinberg. She later became his wife. Their company helped independent movie producers sell their films around the world. They also helped get money to make new movies. The Kopelsons worked together to produce films.
Kopelson produced 29 movies during his career. He won several important awards for his work. For his film Platoon, he received an Academy Award for Best Picture, a Golden Globe Award, and an Independent Spirit Award. He was also nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award for The Fugitive.
His films were very successful, earning over $3 billion worldwide. They also received a total of 17 Academy Award nominations. Kopelson was named Producer of the Year by The National Association of Theatre Owners. He also received a Lifetime Achievement in Filmmaking Award. He got other awards for films like Outbreak, Seven, and The Devil's Advocate. The Deauville Film Festival also honored him for his important work in the entertainment industry.
Kopelson worked with major film studios like Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox. With Paramount, he produced Twisted, which starred Samuel L. Jackson and Ashley Judd. With 20th Century Fox, he produced Don't Say a Word, starring Michael Douglas, and Joe Somebody, starring Tim Allen.

He also taught about filmmaking at famous schools. These included Harvard Business School, American Film Institute, and Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. He also wrote articles about how movies are financed. In 1998, he received a special award from New York Law School for his lifetime achievements.
Personal life
Arnold Kopelson was married twice. In 1959, he married Joy Stern. They had three children: a daughter named Stephanie, and two sons named Peter and Evan. Joy passed away in 1975. In 1976, he married Anne Feinberg, who was also his business partner.
Kopelson died at his home in Beverly Hills, California on October 8, 2018. He was 83 years old.
