The Arnold Palmer is a popular non-alcoholic drink. It's a refreshing mix of iced tea and lemonade. This drink is named after the famous American golfer, Arnold Palmer. Many people believe he invented this tasty combination himself!
How the Arnold Palmer Drink Got Its Name
Arnold Palmer was a very famous professional golfer from America. He was known for often asking for and drinking this special mix of iced tea and lemonade.
One story about how the drink got its name comes from the late 1960s. Arnold Palmer was in Palm Springs, California, after a long day of designing a golf course. He was having lunch and ordered his usual drink. A woman nearby heard him and told the waitress, "I'll have that Arnold Palmer drink, too." This story helped the drink's name become well-known.
Arnold Palmer liked his drink with three parts unsweetened tea to one part lemonade. However, when the drink is made with equal parts tea and lemonade, it is sometimes called a Half & Half.
At the Augusta National Golf Club, where a big golf tournament is held, Palmer would simply say, "I'll have a Mr. Palmer." The staff at the Latrobe Country Club in his hometown knew him so well that they would serve the drink to him or his wife without them even asking. They believed "Mr. Palmer should never have to order the drink named after him."
Where to Find Arnold Palmer Drinks
The Arnold Palmer drink is so popular that many companies now sell it in stores. Arizona Beverage Company started selling the drink with Arnold Palmer's picture and signature on the bottle in 2002. They offer many different flavors, like Green Tea, Southern Style Sweet Tea, Pink Lemonade, and even Zero Calorie versions.
