History of Ambert Arrondissement
When the Puy-de-Dôme département was first created in 1790, the Arrondissement of Ambert was already a part of it. This means it's been an important area for a very long time!
Later, in 1926, the Ambert arrondissement was actually removed from the department's organization. But don't worry, it didn't stay gone for long! In 1942, it was brought back and became an arrondissement again.
Geography of Ambert Arrondissement
The Ambert arrondissement is located in the southeast part of the Puy-de-Dôme département. It shares its borders with several other areas.
- To the north, it's next to the Thiers arrondissement.
- To the east, it borders the Loire département.
- To the south, you'll find the Haute-Loire département.
- To the west, it's next to the Issoire arrondissement.
- And to the northwest, it touches the Clermont-Ferrand arrondissement.
The Ambert arrondissement covers an area of about 1,188 square kilometers (or 459 square miles). It is the arrondissement in the Puy-de-Dôme département with the fewest people living in it.
