History of Castellane Arrondissement
The Castellane arrondissement has an interesting history! It was first created in 1800. This was when the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department was formed.
Later, in 1926, the arrondissement was removed. But it was brought back and became an arrondissement again in 1952.
Geography of Castellane Arrondissement
The Castellane arrondissement is located in the eastern part of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department. It shares borders with other areas. To the north is the Barcelonnette arrondissement. To the east, it borders the Alpes-Maritimes department. The Var department is to the south. Finally, to the west, it borders the Digne-les-Bains arrondissement.
The Castellane arrondissement is the second smallest arrondissement in its department. This is true for both its size and its population. It covers about 1,320.4 square kilometers (510 square miles). In 2014, it had a population of 9,493 people.
