A Look at its Past
The Dax arrondissement was created a long time ago, back in 1800. It was one of the first such areas formed in the Landes department.
Where is it Located?
The Dax arrondissement is found in the southwest part of the Landes department. It covers an area of about 3,194.2 square kilometers (1,233.3 square miles).
In 2014, about 220,656 people lived here. This means there were about 69 people living in each square kilometer.
This area is surrounded by other places. To the north and east, it borders the Mont-de-Marsan arrondissement. To the south, it touches the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department. To the west, it meets the Bay of Biscay, which is part of the Atlantic Ocean.
How it's Organized
The Dax arrondissement is made up of several smaller areas called communes. These are like towns or villages.
Cantons: Smaller Groups of Communes
Cantons are groups of communes. After some changes in France, cantons can sometimes include communes from different arrondissements.
In the Dax arrondissement, most cantons are fully within its borders. However, two cantons, Côte d'Argent and Pays morcenais tarusate, have some communes that belong to a different arrondissement, Mont-de-Marsan.
